What is Sozo?

What is Sozo?

Through healing and wholeness, we discover connection with God.

What is a Sozo session?

Our hope and prayer is first and foremost, that you to encounter the Presence of God. Practically speaking, Sozo, is a 2-3 hour session with 2 prayer ministers, who will help you identify (through the leading of Holy Spirit) and release the things that have kept you held back (like unforgiveness, fear, or shame, even if you did nothing wrong) from an intimate relationship with God.

What is the result?

Greater peace. Joy. Freedom from the things that held you back, not only from God but also from others.

Our role is to create a safe place for you to encounter God. He longs for greater intimacy with you! And we have completed hundreds of sessions watching God move in both big and small miracles.

  • Sozo in the New Testament is translated as … saved – healed – delivered, set free and walking in your divine purpose. Sozo appears over 100 times in the Scriptures. Salvation means more than simply being saved to go to heaven when you die. It means, you free from the judgement of God, and salvation includes the ability to resist temptations to sin in your pursuit of Christ-likeness, to be saved from spiritual attacks and oppression, and to receive healing in our physical bodies.  These are listed among the many promises of God in the scriptures.

    Isaiah 53: 4-5 says

Jesus endured the suffering that should have been ours, the pain that we should have suffered.  All the while we thought that His suffering was punishment sent by God.  But because of our sins he was wounded and beaten because of the evil we did.  We are healed by the punishment he suffered and made whole by the blows he received.

  • We understand. It might seem like, “Why would anyone go looking for trouble if everything is ‘ok’ ?”

It might help to think of a Sozo as an oil change for your car, except this is for your spiritual life that affects every area of life. Things happens, in our families, church life, at work and in our friendships. We do things, other people do things, random things happen, all of which impacts: us.

Having a Sozo deepens our connection with Father God, Jesus and Holy Spirit to bring freedom from life’s hurts. And He sends the cogs in our wheels packing to the cross so they cannot negatively affect the flow of our lives.

  • We have a part to take hold of as it applies to the Blood of Jesus.

    2 Corinthians 10: 4

The weapons we use in our fight are not the world’s weapons, but God’s powerful weapons, which we use to destroy strongholds.  We destroy false arguments, we pull down every proud obstacle that is raised against the knowledge of God, and we take every thought captive and make it obey Christ.

  • If you’ve prayed and prayed and it still isn’t ‘okay”, then there’s no shame in seeking someone to pray with you. This is especially true when life feels too complicated to untangle. Much of our wounding happens when we are children and we may not remember. Wounds often happen when we are not old enough to understand what happened to us. Or we may not have known how to defend ourselves. It is important for the Holy Spirit to get involved. And yes, the Holy Spirit comes when we are alone too, but if that hasn’t resolved the issue, then be sure that “where two or three come together in my name, I am there with them”. That is one of the foundational concepts of Sozo ministry.

  • If it’s someone you trust, then ask God. If you have peace about it, that is likely confirmation. If not, you get to decide. And if you elect to come in for a session, you decide what gets talked about in that session. It is between you and God, what you choose to talk about is up to you – not anyone else.

  • People come for all sorts of reasons. Imagine God has an office door and it’s always open.  What would you want to go in and ask Him?

Some come in every year for a tune up and oil change. It’s great to get checked out and hang out with God and His trusted friends.

Others come because something is bothering them.  Maybe they can’t sleep.  Maybe they’re anxious, or having relationship trouble.  Maybe they want to forgive someone and move on but they just can’t.  Maybe they’re stuck in a pattern of behavior and they want to walk free.

Maybe they just want to hear God’s word for the next phase in their life.

  • You are welcome to have someone drive you to your session and meet everyone who will be present during your session. It is best once you feel comfortable, to ask your ride to get a cup of coffee during your session. The primary reason is that we develop soul ties or sub-conscious soul ties. Anyone we know may have a hold over us that we are unaware of. Cleaning those up are often one of the things that frees us from the things that hold us back. If there are extenuating circumstances, please email us so that we can better understand your situation.

  • Sozo is not counseling or even giving advice. It is about equipping and empowering you, the guest, to hear from Heaven for yourself. The team will invite you to ask questions of Father God, Jesus and Holy Spirit. This revelation, and the prayers that accompany it, will bring healing of wounds that you have carried, sometimes for many years. In the same way, you, the guest, hear biblical truth about yourself, your relationships and your heavenly Father. Not from the team, but from you ‘hearing’ for yourself. Proverbs 20:12 says “Lovers of God have been given eyes to see and ears to hear from God.”

Sozo empowers you, the guest, through personal revelation, to identify any wounds and lies still at work in them, many of which you may be completely unaware of.  The guest’s primary interaction is not with the team member, but with God Himself.

  • It is prayer, which is a conversation with God, not counselling and not psychology.  While it is informed by an understanding of neuroscience, the actual Sozo is simply a guided conversation between God and a person who wants to meet with Him.

  • After the Lord’s prayer in Matthew 6, Jesus says:

If you forgive others for the wrongs they have done to you, your Father in Heaven will also forgive you.”

Forgiving someone who has hurt you may not alter their lives, but spiritually, it makes a huge difference in yours.  God isn’t asking you to do any more than to forgive.  What forgiveness does is open the door of the cage that you are in.  Some say unforgiveness is like drinking poison and expecting the other person to die.  It’s why God is so serious about forgiveness.  He loves us and wants us free.  Just leave the people to him.

Forgiveness, doesn’t mean you immediately trust that person. The process after forgiveness, is a walk that you and Holy Spirit can go on, based on the Wisdom He imparts to you thorugh His Word and hearing from Heaven.

  • That means you’ve done a lot of forgiving.  Our experience is that, because Sozo is based on revelation and not on our own understanding, you might be very surprised at what you hear in the session.

“There is nothing that can be hidden from God; everything in all creation is exposed and lies open before his eyes.”  Hebrews 4: 13.

You may be surprised at the number of people who, when they ask “who do I need to forgive?”, pause and then reply in a surprised tone: “I never thought of that before!”

  • One of the team will lead you in asking a question of God, which you are free to re-phrase. You then tell the team member what you see, hear, sense, feel – whatever comes to mind.  We find this also helps you clarify what you heard. Questions might be directed to Father God, or Jesus, or the Holy Spirit, whoever you want to talk to.

All the good stuff said gets written down and given to you at the end of the Sozo, you get to keep those words to meditate and reflect on in your own prayer times.  It is usually a very powerful experience to hear back those words which have been spoken just to you, about your life.

We destroy all notes except the ones we give you to take away:  your truths and gifts.

  • Your session will only deal with what God shows you and speaks to you about, not to the team members.  God only brings what you need next for freedom in your life.

  • Sozo is a confidential ministry*. We do not keep notes about your session. We see so many people each year, we find that our team members don’t remember the detail of individual Sozo sessions even if they encountered you on the street or in a church service.

*There are some exceptions to this assurance of confidentiality .
We are required by law, to report to the authorities, if you have plans to hurt yourself or someone else.

  • We do not force you to talk about anything – you decide based on what you are hearing.  For example, if you said to the team member “I don’t want to go there”, we would invite you to ask God “is it safe to go there?” and if the answer is “no”, we don’t go there.

You are in charge of your Sozo at all times.

  • God is so kind.  He knows exactly what you need next for freedom in your life.   We will get a little background information from you just to help us determine how you hear from God, if at all. You don’t need to tell us anything that would make you uncomfortable. In fact we don’t want too much detail at the start! You can just relax and we’ll lead you through, a bit like a coaching session with God.

  • Totally understandable. Everyone coming in for a Sozo is a little nervous. Why? Because of the unknown. You are opening yourself up to the God of the universe and there are people in the room you don’t know. But God called each of us to this ministry and we are Sozo ministers.

The spirit in which your Sozo is conducted, is one of gentle, kind, and leading by The Shepherd. We are led by Him and you will be too. And He is merciful and gracious and kind. We trust you will find this to be true in your session as well.

  • We hear God all the time, but often we don’t know it.  The Sozo environment is set up to reduce the background noise down to zero.  As you are one of His “sheep”, it is your scriptural right and promise to hear and know His voice.

Hearing may not always be in words, you may sense Him, feel Him, see Him, hear Him  – people hear God in all sorts of ways. He may remind you of an event, a person or give you a memory. When that happens you always get to ask God “Why did you show me that?” Remember, we are here to assist you through the Sozo process, you are not alone.

  • You can stop completely, or take a comfort break, or ask the team member questions at any time during the session. No one has ever left a session upset or uncomfortable. So if history helps us to tell you, we think it will be ok, ask Jesus if you are ready.

  • We cannot always know who knows whom in the Kingdom, but if we have any reason to think that there will be an issue, we check it out first and you should also tell us of any concerns about who does your Sozo when you schedule it. As we’ve said, you can call a halt to your Sozo at any time. Women do women’s Sozo’s. Women do children’s Sozo’s. Women or a combination of a man and a woman may do a men’s Sozo. If you have any concerns, please reach out and let us know so that we can create an atmosphere that will make you the most comfortable.

  • We believe in God the Father, Jesus His Son and Holy Spirit.  We speak to all three in a Sozo and our experience is that they speak to the person coming in for prayer.  So, if you are willing to “borrow our faith” and are interested to explore what God might say, then we welcome you.

  • We suggest people pray before they come, for what they need and maybe for the team members.  You may feel you want to fast, or God may invite you to do something else in preparation. Spend time in worship and in the Word of God. He will be preparing your heart until you arrive for your session. Look forward to it! Even if you feel a little nervous. That is to be expected. But you will quickly feel the Presence of God. And that is how you will know, He is real and will meet you in your session.

  • Normally people will only have one Sozo session.  Even if you think there are other things God wants to do in your life, we will recommend that you wait a bit before coming back, at least one month.  The real transformation comes after the Sozo as you walk out those truths and experience life without the lies, wounds and bad connections you’ve been carrying.

  • We ask that you prayerfully consider a minumum donation of $150 for an individual adult session. We set aside 3 hours for your session. We pray for you from the time you schedule your session, before, during and then after your session. Donations help us with the ongoing costs of running this ministry including facility offerings, website and insurance. If no one knew we were here to help, we wouldn’t be able to help you. So we appreciate your support keeping this ministry available. Thank you for considering the value of the session, the same you would for any wellness assistance you might receive.

The donation for a child’s session varies by age but is generally $50-100. We take into consideration when all family need Sozo sessions and will happily work with you to get everyone a session.

For team trainings, please fill out our contact form so we can work with you on what might work for your church or ministry.

  • Things of value have a cost.

Scripture says “a worker is due his wages” (1 Timothy 5:18). We would happily do this for no charge but like your time, our time is valuable too. We spend a lot of time in training and prayer for this ministry and its framework has costs associated with it. We are thankful that people recognize the value and that nothing is free except the gift of salvation, but even that came with great cost. We invite participants to envision the cost of what we do as an investment into their healing and freedom. You can’t put a price on freedom.

  • The cost to become a 501c3 is expensive. We presently do not have the resources to make that happen. We hope to make that happen one day very soon!

We view the work that we do similarly to those who provide any service to you and your family. Most of those come with a cost. Most who come in for a session realize the benefit right away and are happy to help us continue to be available as a ministry to others. We trust you will too.

What We Do

Individual Sozo Session

A Sozo session is for individuals seeking to get unstuck from whatever seems to be holding them back personally, relationally, and even professionally. The session consists of 2-3 hours with 2 prayer ministers who will guide the session led by Holy Spirit. Sozo is not painful. Pain from the past, is past, and not present to hurt you any further. This session is for you to find God’s peace through a connection with God.

Individual Coaching Sessions

After a Sozo, most people walk away feel a greater sense of peace, freedom and joy. There may be questions about how to navigate how their life feels following a Sozo session. We have set up virtual coaching sessions for those desiring additional steps to both walk in their freedom and find additional resources to assist them in their new or renewed connection with God.
